A fluid-tight closure device for an autoclave of rectangular shape comprises two pairs of lips, each pair being formed by one lip 9 along one of the two long sides of the cover 2 at the base thereof and by one lip 3 on the corresponding long side of the top rim of the autoclave body 1, the two lips of a same pair serving as a guide for a sliding member 11 which is intended to hold them in contact, whilst a pressure-backed sealing joint 16 is interposed between the base of the cover and the top rim of the autoclave body. To lock or unlock the cover the member 11 is slid horizontally to right or left and in order that it may not become completely detached it has a series of recesses 13 which form gaps in the length of the upper wall of its dovetail groove and there are corresponding recesses in the lips 9 whereby the distance through which the member 11 need be slid is only the length of a recess and, when the cover is detached, the member 11 is held by the lower lip 3. The sealing joint 16 rests in a groove 15 which extends around the top face 7 of a hoop or rim 4 in which the lip 3 is formed. Conduits 16<SP>1</SP> allow a pressure agent to enter the groove 15, beneath the sealing joint 16, and the admission of the pressure agent may be controlled by the movement of the cover 2 or of the member 11 so that it occurs after the cover has been locked in position, while before or during the unlocking operation the pressure agent is evacuated.
