Abstract
1,042,680. Doors for pressure vessels. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. March 5, 1965 [March 5, 1964], No. 9557/65. Heading F2P. A sealable connecting device between two enclosures (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises a case 1 having two openings 13, 14 and at least one movable sealing shutter 21 for at least one of the openings (as at 13 in Fig. 1), these being inflatable joints 31, 32 between the case 1 and the said enclosures on the one hand and, at 33, between the shutters and the case on the other hand. The enclosures have flat external faces spaced apart from each other by a distance somewhat exceeding the depth 17, 18 of the case 1, each with an opening which is similar to the openings 13, 14 and faces the opening of the other enclosure. Along the vertical sides the enclosure openings are external slideways into which lateral extensions 15 of the parallel walls 11 and 12 can be inserted and the case slid down until the openings 13 and 14 coincide with the openings in the enclosure walls and bottom extensions 16 of the case walls engage in corresponding grooves along the external bottom edge of the enclosure openings, whereby with the shutter 21 raised there is a channel connecting the two enclosures (Fig. 2, not shown) sealed by the joints 31 and 32. The shutter 21 is attached to a piston 27 in a cylinder 23 into which pressure-fluid can be fed at 28 to raise and lower it. The seals 31 and 32 are pressurized through pipes 34 outside the case 1. Two cases each with a shutter may be used connected together face 12 to face 12 by fixing collars (not shown) where it is required to have a shutter for sealing the openings of both of the enclosures.
