Abstract

In order to permit treatment of wounds with North American pine tar preparations in the absence of air a composition incorporating unrefined North American pine tar is applied on a flexible, air-impervious backing member or is applied in a solution of a film-forming substance. If a backing strip is used this may be of closely woven fabric or of synthetic resin, and the tar is applied to it as an adhesive composition which may include such substances as lanolin and zinc oxide. For forming a film dressing it is preferred to use flexible collodion as a carrier for the North American pine tar. In this case the solvent in the flexible collodion evaporates leaving the pine tar in an air impervious film of collodion.
