Abstract

950,353. Gas meters. ALEXANDER WRIGHT & CO. Ltd. Sept. 24, 1962 [June 23, 1961], No. 10729/61. Heading G1R. A wet-drum type gas meter is provided with blades (Fig. 4) consisting of a piece of metal with a tongue 11 to engage in a slot 9 in the meter drum 8 and shaped to provide an impellor surface 12 and also a side wall 13 and 14 for each of two adjoining pockets. The plate is pressed at each side of the part 12 in opposite directions though similar angles to form parallel extending side walls as in Fig. 5. The tongue 11 is soldered in position in an inclined transverse slot in the surrounding cylindrical drum 8 so that four of the blades form four sector-shaped pockets within the drum. The drum is fitted with an end-plate 15 and is mounted in a housing 1 on a spindle 2 to which the ends of the surfaces 12 are attached and to which is coupled, via a differential 4, through gearing 3 to an indicator 16. The housing contains water at a level L above the level of the axis of the spindle 2 and has a gas inlet 5 and a gas outlet 6. In order to provide a fluid-tight chamber, the spindle bearing 17 has a fluid seal 18 with a bush 19 and the housing has an annular seal 20. The bearing 17, seal 18 and bush 19 are all in a central mounting block 21 on which the indicator housing 22 can slide. A perspex reservoir with means for indicating and adjusting the level of liquid in the meter may be provided. Temperature of the liquid is indicated by a thermometer 23.
