Abstract

949,990. Cartons. ETABLISSEMENT ALAJEX. June 28, 1961 [June 28, 1960], No. 23417/61. Heading B8P. A carton for cigarettes comprises a container, one wall of which is cut to form the same number of lid elements as articles to be contained therein, and wherein each lid element is capable of being opened by pressing out or folding back, and means being provided for pushing each article elastically against its lid to facilitate ejection. In one embodiment, cups 3 each enclose the upper end of a cigarette and are formed with a tear line which defines a lid portion 8. A spring element 5, provided with tabs 6, 7 pushes the articles against the lid portion, so that on removal of a lid the article extends through the aperture. In further embodiments, the spring element may comprise coil springs, pads of plastic or rubber filled with compressed air. In an alternative arrangement, an elastic sheet attached to the cap 2 is slotted to form bands, each engaging two articles, to constitute the spring element. In a further embodiment, a sheet of elastic is secured to a blank of aluminium foil 17, and the packet is formed by folding to a U-shape about a base 24, folding in portions 22 to produce side walls and inserting tabs 21 into slots 20, so that a panel 27 overlies the wall 26 and strips 19 provide the lid elements.
