Abstract

949,898. Automatic circuit-breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. April 30, 1962 [May 31, 1961], No. 16317/62. Headings H2B and H2K. A switch comprises a tripping device 15 effective to cause separation of the contacts 12, a counting means 30 which is advanced step-bystep towards the tripping device 15 on each occurrence of a predetermined circuit condition, e.g. excess current, and a member 31 between the counting means 30 and the device 15, the member 31 being movable to alter the number of occurrences necessary to cause tripping in the case of the line sectionalizing switch shown or lockout in the case of an automatic reclosing circuit-breaker. The means 30 is provided with a head 49 having trip surfaces 50, 51 and the member 31 is movable laterally from the position in which it cooperates with the surface 51 to that in which it co-operates with the surface 50 to alter the number of occurrences necessary to cause tripping or lockout. The member 31 is moved against the action of a spring 43 when a coil 39 is energized. The coil may be connected to a voltage transformer 61 so that the number of occurrences to produce tripping or lockout is changed in response to a loss of voltage in the system. Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) illustrate other arrangements of the head 49.
