Abstract
949,583. Crop sprayers. GOLDEN ARROW MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. June 12, 1962 [March 27, 1961], No. 11026/61. Heading B2F. A row crop sprayer comprises a wheeled vehicle 10 across which a transverse beam 14 is secured ; at least one boom 23 pivoted at its inner end 24 to one end of the main beam ; means 17, 18, 19, 20 whereby the boom is mounted for pivotal movement in a vertical plane ; means 18, 22, 25 whereby the boom is mounted for movement in a horizontal plane and means 37 whereby the boom is locked against horizontal movement when raised; drop pipes 46 situated along the main frame and boom, adjustable vertically and laterally and carrying spray nozzles 47 ; hose piping 55 connecting the drop pipes with a pump (not shown) and a selector valve 56 adapted to control the route of the spray fluid. 17 is a post projecting upwards from the end of the main beam, 14, and 18 is a tube projecting upwards from the end 24 of the boom and having a bracket 19 with a pin 20 pivoting its end to the post 17. 22 is a king pin which passes through the tube 18 and 25 is a clevis through which the end of the boom 23 is secured to the lower end of the king pin. One plate 30 of a spring-loaded ratchet clutch 29 is fixed to the upper end of the tube 18 and the other plate 28 is fixed to a member from which torsion rods 26 extend to a point part way along the boom 23. Normally the boom can be moved in the horizontal plane, but when it is pivoted upwards by the action of hydraulic components 35, 36 the locking means 37 come into play. These comprise an angled bar 38 pivoted to the tube 18 at 40 and kept away from it, when the boom is horizontal, by the engagement of a pin 43, projecting from the post 17, with a projection 44 from the end of the bar. As the boom rises, turning about the pivot 20, the end of the bar 38 leaves the pin 43 and a spring 42 turns it about a pivot 40 and causes a U- formation at its upper end to clamp the clutch plates 28, 30 together. The boom is steadied in the spraying position by the engagement of a U-bracket 45 on the tube 18 with the main beam 14. Spray fluid from the pump enters a chamber 58 in the valve 56 through an inlet 57, Fig. 6, and is directed to the required drop pipes through ports 60. 60<SP>1</SP>, 60<SP>11</SP> controlled by valves 59, 59<SP>1</SP>, 59<SP>11</SP>. Excess fluid pressure opens a relief valve 61 and surplus fluid is then bypassed through a port 62 back to the storage tank. The same fluid is used for the hydraulic operation. When a valve 67 is operated, fluid from the chamber 58 passes through a duct 63 and leaves by a port 74 to the hydraulic assembly 35, 36. If the pressure is excessive, it opens a spring-loaded valve 73 to by-pass some of the fluid through to port 62.
