In a conveying installation in which loadcarrying trolleys are propelled along a track by driving elements projecting from a driving chain there is provided at one or more locations on the installation a plurality of carrier drive disengaging elements, a plurality of actuating elements operatively connected to a carrier drive disengaging element situated rearwardly thereof in relation to the direction of advancement of the carriers by the driving element, and arresting members on or associated with each carrier drive element for arresting the carriers within longitudinal limits such that an arrested carrier is effective to move the disengagement element next in rear thereof into its operative position to ensure arrest of the next newly arrived carrier, each actuating element being so arranged as to be operated by a carrier which is being pushed in front of the succeeding carrier before the latter has advanced beyond the carrier drive disengaging element associated with the actuating element, whereby the last disengaging element is then effective at least to disengage the driving element from the succeeding carrier. In the arrangement shown a carrier 13a is pushed along a track 12 by a driving dog 15 depending from a chain 11 running on a overhead track 10. On arrival at a stopping point along the track 12 the leading carrier 13a engages an element 38 to pivot a stop 20 and a carrier drive disengaging element 23 into the path of the succeeding carrier 13b. The stop 20 prevents further forward movement of the carrier 13b and the element 23 is engaged by cam follower 32 to lift the driving dog 15 out of driving engagement with the carrier 13b.
