Abstract

949,129. Injection moulding machines. DOWDING & DOLL Ltd. Dec. 19, 1962 [Feb. 15, 1962], No. 5950/62. Heading B5A. In an injection moulding machine having an axially reciprocable screw 1, a piston head 10 of smaller diameter than the root of the screw is rigidly fixed to the end of the screw and is adapted to enter a cylinder 12 in which it is a close sliding fit as the screw approaches the limit of its forward travel. The pressure applied to the injected material is thus increased and can be maintained for a longer period. The cylinder 12 and nozzle 5 are formed in a replaceable hardened insert 15.
