Abstract

948,830. Doffing apparatus. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. Aug. 22, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 30260/61. Heading D1D. Apparatus for automatically transferring continuously fed yarn at the doffing stage from a full to an empty bobbin in draw-twisting-apparatus, comprises a stationary traveller-ring 48, a turntable assembly 10 mounted on a base 41 to rotate in a horizontal plane, a pair of rotatable bobbinholders 44 mounted vertically on the assembly 10, means to rotate the assembly to align either holder in coaxially spaced relation with the ring 48, means to reciprocate the assembly vertically to traverse the aligned holder relatively to the ring, drivengear means to rotate the holders and means independently to halt rotation of either bobbin-holder. As shown, during a wind the bobbin-holders 44 are rotated by pinions 28 meshing an elongated pinion 32, the holders engaging conical members 30 on shafts 24. The holders are reciprocated through the turntable 10 which rests on a plate 50 secured to piston rods 46, the plate having pins 52 engaging sockets in the turntable to prevent the latter rotating. At the end of a wind, the reciprocation is halted, and the rods 46 withdrawn to lower the turntable; the plate 50 descends on to base-plate 41 and separates from the turntable which comes to rest on rollers 71 where a ring gear 19 meshes a gear 20. The turntable is thus rotated through 180 degrees to bring an empty holder below the ring 48; so that the thread lies across it. As both bobbins are now rotating, the thread snaps and begins to wind on the empty bobbin. The reciprocation is now re-started so that the pins 52 engage their sockets to prevent the turntable rotating. A solenoid 56 is now engaged to advance a bifurcated member 60 to raise the filled bobbin holder out of contact with the conical member 30.
