A self-service cart 10 comprises a basket 14 pivoted by pivots 72, 73 in guides 74, 75 on a wheeled frame 12. The walls 28, 30, 32 of the basket are connected by U-shaped members 42, 44, 46 and the front wall 36 is pivoted to members 56, 58. The wires forming walls 32, 30 are interconnected by members 48, 50 and 49, 51 and are stressed so that on raising wall 36 about pivots 60, 61 and so moving U-shaped members 54, 62 from members 48-51, the front part of walls 30, 32 spring apart to facilitate emptying of the basket. A U-shaped member 76 is pivoted to the basket and the frame, to limit clockwise rotation of the basket about pins 72, 73. When the cart enters recess 82 in counter 80, a roller 86 raises the rear end of the basket, the pins 72, 73 riding up guides 74, 75 and the bottom pivoting rearwardly about member 76, so that on raising wall 36 the contents of the basket slide easily on to counter 80. A pivoted rear wall 34, prevented from clockwise rotation by abutments 70, and the diverging legs 12d of the frame 12 enable several carts to be nested.
