Abstract

948,379. Illuminating clocks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 7, 1961 [April 8, 1960(3)], No. 12553/61. Heading G3T. [Also in Divisions F4 and G1] An illuminating system especially for illuminating a clock face comprises a light transmitting panel having a central opening, a reflector surface adjacent the rear face and a plurality of reflecting indentations formed in the front face, a light source and means for transmitting the light rays from the source in a direction generally parallel to the faces of the panel. The indentations may be partspherical and of increasing depth and/or more closely spaced as the distance from the light source increases. Similar identations may also be provided on the rear face and the edges of the panel may be made reflecting to return the light. In the form shown, the light source 17 is carried in a holder 3 connected to the panel by a light conducting member 6. The front surface of the panel is formed with depressions 10 increasing in depth in a direction away from the member 6 and the rear surface is provided with or formed as a reflector 11. The edges of the panel are bevelled as at 12 to reflect the light. A mask 15 is provided between the front face of the panel and a translucent dial.
