Abstract
948,150. Corrugating; tubes expanding. CROSSHALL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 24, 1961 [May 26, 1960], No. 18596/60. Headings B3E and B3J. Apparatus for forming a circumferential bead x<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, in a drum body x comprises a double-acting power cylinder 11, Fig. 1, the piston-rod 20 of which carries a wedge member 21 arranged to coact with the inner inclined surfaces 21a of a series of circularly-arranged bead-forming members 16 adapted for radial inward and outward movement in relation to a drum disposed in surrounding relation to the members 16 on a platform 23. The members 16, which are disposed between upper and lower plates 14, 15 carried from the cylinder 11 by a support 13, are guided for their radial movements by keys 18 and urged to their inner radial positions by a garter spring 19. The wedge member 21 is adjustably mounted on the piston-rod 20 by screw-threaded means and the platform 23 is adjustably carried from the cylinder 11 by pillars 24. Admission of fluid pressure to the cylinder 11 is effected by operating a pedal 25 or push-button which acts through a valve 26 to cause downward movement of the piston-rod so that the wedge member 21 expands the members 16 into engagement with the inner surface of the drum to form the bead x<SP>1</SP>. Return movement of the piston-rod may be effected automatically by the action of the lower end 20b of the latter upon a valve 30.
