948,068. Indexing; grinding. RHODEN PARTNERS Ltd. Jan. 20, 1961 [Oct. 20, 1959], No. 35482/59. Headings B3B, B3D and B3Q. For a press, drilling, grinding, slotting, shaping or re-assembling machine, a rotary indexing device comprises a wheel 3 carrying two circular tracks 16, 17 of stops and a radially movable stop for engaging stops on alternate tracks. The wheel is rotated by a bar 4 reciprocated by fluid-pressure means 12 against a dash-pot 13 and having racks 5, 6 thereon which are alternately engaged with a pinion 7 by blocks 8, 9 moved transversely by fluidpressure means 10, 11. The stop 18 is clamped on the block 9 by a screw 19. When the block 9 is moved to disengage the stop 18 from a stop 20, the rack 6 is engaged with the pinion 2. When the bar 4 is moved, the following stop 21 is moved against the stop 18. Some of the stops may be of greater height than others so that by adjusting the stop 18 only the higher stops may be engaged. In a modification, the racks and pinion 2 are replaced by friction gearing and the blocks 8 and 9 are moved by a single piston.
