Abstract

A solution of positive carbon or metal ions having no negative ions associated therewith is made by immersing a body of carbon or metal in a non-electrolyte with which it does not react and applying to the body a positive potential. The non-electrolyte may be pure water or petrol, and the solution may contain other dissolved substances, e.g. lactose, which are also non-electrolytic. Metals mentioned are silver, copper, gold, platinum and cobalt.ALSO:A solution in a non-electrolyte of positive silver ions, having no negative ions associated therewith, is stated to have bactericidal properties and may be used to fight the tobacco disease known as "mosaic." The solution may be in water containing lactose.
