Abstract
In the production of conjugated diolefins by the catalytic oxidation of C4+ mono-olefins in the vapour phase with molecular oxygen, the reactor effluent is washed with a non-alkaline aqueous liquid. The gases are washed counter-currently with water or water containing about 1% wt. of carbonic, sulphuric or acetic acid. Suitable catalysts are bismuth tungstate, bismuth molybdate, a mixture of tin and antimony oxides and phosphoric acid on alumina or tin oxide. The productions of butadiene from butenes and isoprene from methylbutenes are referred to.
