Abstract
946,954. Paper-making. ABSTERMO BRUKS A.B. June 21, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 22512/61. Heading D2A. The hollow forming roller 1, Figs. 2 and 3, of a wound-board machine, on which a cylinder of cardboard 50 is wound, comprises a bar 11, which can be moved, periodically to and fro, from a position in which it is completely retracted within an axial groove in the roller to a position in which part of the bar projects out of the groove. One or more nozzles (or slots) are provided at the rear of the bar, relative to the direction of rotation of the roller, through which nozzle or nozzles compressed gas, e.g. air, supplied through channels 14 (or 18) and 19 in the bar and one or more flexible tubes 22, is ejected at the surface of the roller when the nozzles emerge as the bar is moved partly out of its groove. A furrow or notch 26 is formed in the outer edge 12 of the bar, or between its front surface and the adjacent surface of the groove, or in the roller itself, preferably at least 8 mm. in front of the rear surface of the bar, to weaken the cardboard along a line substantially parallel to the bar. The outwardly moving bar pushes the cardboard away from the roller thus severing it along the line of weakness and gas is blown, from the nozzles between the roller and the severed cardboard, to loosen and facilitate removal of the latter from the roller which, after retraction of the bar, is effected by hand, by a grasper, or by an air-knife. The roller may comprise two or more bars 11. According to Fig. 4, nozzles 61 are provided in the shell 2 of the roller.
