[Also in Division G4] An electrical indicating instrument comprises a mechanically balanced scale 6 rotated by a moving spindle 3 of the instrument and a light source 7, optical system 8, 9 and screen 10 so mounted in relation to the scale that in each possible position of the scale 6, an enlarged image of a relatively small portion thereof is projected on the screen, the scale having teeth 12 adapted to be engaged by a movable detent 13 whereby it may be locked in any position to which it has been moved. The detent may be actuated by an electromagnet 14. The indicia, which are transparent or translucent in an otherwise opaque member, may be formed photographically or may be stencil-like openings.
