Abstract

Aqueous resin emulsions comprise (a) a methyl-phenyl polysiloxane, stearic acid, morpholine, toluene, sodium di-octyl sulpho succinate and water; (b) a methyl polysiloxane, white spirit, octyl phenyl polyglycol ether and water; (c) an ethyl acrylate-styrene copolymer, sodium alkyl phenyl polyglycol ether sulphonate, oleocetyl polyglycol ether and water; and (d) a butadiene-styrene copolymer, alkyl phenyl polyglycol ether and water. Mention is also made of aqueous emulsion of copolymers of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester with styrene, a -methyl styrene or vinyl-toluene, a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer or a homo polymer of ethylene or propylene and aqueous emulsions of other silicones including ethyl, propyl, butyl, amyl, benzyl and phenyl poly siloxanes. The emulsions are used singly or in admixture in water-proofing structural materials (see Division D1). Specification 806,226 is referred to.ALSO:Structured materials containing free lime, e.g. asbestos-cement board, have applied thereto in the form of aqueous emulsion in the absence of a pigment, a silicone and a protective substance for the silicone, viz., a copolymer of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester and styrene, a -methyl styrene or vinyl toluene, a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a butadieneacrylonitrile or -styrene copolymer, or a homopolymer of ethylene or propylene. The silicone emulsion may be applied after or simultaneously with the emulsion of protecting substance, e.g. as an admixture. The application may be made by dipping, spraying, brushing or rolling. Specified emulsions comprise (A) methyl-phenyl polysiloxane, stearic acid, morpholine, toluene, sodium di-octyl sulpho succinate and water; (B) methyl polysiloxane, octylphenyl-polyglycol ether, white spirit and water; (C) an ethyl acrylate-styrene copolymer, sodium alkyl phenyl polyglycol ether sulphonate, oleocetyl polyglycol ether and water; (D) a butadiene-styrene copolymer, alkylphenyl polyglycol ether and water. Specification 806,226 is referred to.ALSO:Structural materials containing free lime, e.g. asbestos-cement board, are rendered water-repellant by having applied thereto, in the form of aqueous emulsions in the absence of a pigment, a silicone and a substance protecting the silicone from attack by free lime viz. a copolymer of acrylic or methacrylic acid ester and styrene, a -methyl styrene or vinyl toluene, a vinyl-chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, a butadiene-acrylonitrile or styrene copolymer or an ethylene or propylene homopolymer. The emulsion of silicone may be applied after or simultaneously with the application of the emulsion of protecting substance e.g. as an admixture. The emulsions may be applied by dipping, spraying, brushing or rolling. Specified emulsions comprise (A) methyl-phenyl-polysiloxane, stearic acid, morpholine, toluene, sodium di octyl sulphosuccinate and water; (B) methyl polysiloxane, octylphenyl-polyglycol ether, white spirit and water; (C) ethyl acrylate/styrene copolymer, alkyl phenyl polyglycol ether sodium sulphonate, oleocetyl polyglycol ether and water; (D) butadienestyrene copolymer, alkyl phenyl polyglycol ether and water.
