946,415. Hydraulic-load testing of materials. LOSENHAUSENWERK DUSSELDORFER MASCHINENBAU A.G. April 4,1961 [April 2, 1960], No. 11931/61. Heading G1S. The loading pump 1 for a piston 15 of a hydraulic materials-testing device supplies pressure when a control cylinder 6 is actuated (as shown), and is reversed by a control cylinder 6<SP>1</SP>, the cylinders 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> being selectively connected to an auxiliary pump 11 by a slide-valve 7 when the pressure reaches predetermined minimum and maximum values respectively. Slide-valve 7 moves upwardly, under spring-loading 22, when the pressure in chamber 21 is removed by the opening of valve 19<SP>1</SP> by a member 18 carried by the piston, whereby 6<SP>1</SP> is pressurized. As the piston withdraws under the action of springs 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, valve 19 will be opened and chamber 21 pressurized through pipe 20. Thus 6 will be priasurized, piston 15 loaded and the process will be repeated. The slopes of the stress waveform (Fig. 3) depends on the magnitude of the positive and negative parts of the loading cycle of pump 1 and these are adjustable by means of the stops 4,4<SP>1</SP>. The sharpness of the peaks depends on the relaxation time of the cylinders 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> which can be controlled by means of throttles 10, 10<SP>1</SP> on the outlets 9, 9<SP>1</SP> of the cylinders, throttle 14, and the control member 12 of the auxiliary pump output. The single test cylinder may be. replaced by an alternating stress system comprising two cylinders on either side of the piston 15.
