Abstract

A fluorescent X-ray image screen comprises a membrane 1, Fig 2, of a homogeneous elastic material, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate 0.05 to 0.5 mm. thick pervious to light and/or X-rays, stretched flatly on a supporting frame 2 and carrying a layer of fluorescent material 4. The fluorescent material may be deposited on a thin soft base (e.g. cardboard) which is then secured to the stretched membrane. Fig. 3 illustrates a method of preparing a membrane <PICT:0946388/C3/1> <PICT:0946388/C3/2> having more fluorescent material at its edges than in the centre, where the material is deposited by sedimentation, the membrane 1 during sedimentation being made to bulge upwards by applied air pressure.
