[Also in Division A4] In pliers, stopper extractors, pruning scissors and shears comprising two pivoted members A, B, each member has a handle and gripping face or cutting edge constituted by a metal core embedded, except for the gripping face or cutting edge, in a moulded synthetic plastics insulating material. The flat rectangular blank 2 is obtained from a steel blank by stamping, forging, moulding or casting. The core is rectangular in cross - section, its major dimension extending in the transverse direction so as to be perpendicular to the effort exerted on the handles. As shown, each jaw 3 consists of a plate welded at right-angles to the core. The jaws may be formed by twisting or otherwise deforming the core metal, or by moulding. The coating material is preferably moulded round the core by the injection moulding process. The edges of the cores are bevelled to provide cutters 4.
