A combination lock has a plurality of coaxial discs 30 independently rotated and having radial or chordal cut-away portions 25 to receive a bolt locating element 7 on the bolt 3 when all cut-away portions 23 are in coincidental positions, means being provided for shifting the bolt locating element. Each of the said discs 30 are coupled to an indicator dial such as 9 or 18 by means of a projection 14 or 21 on one or other of said dials which engages one of a number of slots 22 in the appropriate disc 30, whereby the combination may at any time be conveniently altered. When locked the locating element 7 is in the scope of the arcuate recesses 16, 23, and in the unlocked position is within the scope of arcuate recesses 17, 24 whereby the disc or discs 30 may be spun to "break code". When the discs have been correctly set for opening, the bolt may be drawn by means of an arcuate slot 27 in the knob 26. To prevent unauthorised discovery of the correct positions of the discs 30 by feel, the edges of the discs may be slightly reduced in radius in the vicinity of the cut-away portions 25.
