A motor-driven bogie unit having two or more pairs of wheels or sets of wheels of the gear-box mounted type, in which the driving connection between the driving spindles of each gear-box is provided by the motor spindle where the motor is mounted in a horizontal position and by a length of flexible tubing with the motor vertical and in which means are provided for adjustably interconnecting each gear-box mounting to enable the bogie unit to be adapted to wheel bases of varying sizes. The motor M has polepieces 6 and 7 connected by a magnetic member and retained in position by lugs 16 on an endplate 14 of a gear-box B comprising side-plates 9, 9<SP>1</SP> mounting the wheel axle A and a wormwheel 12. For adjusting the length of the wheel base an extension 21 on the end plate of the gear-box B<SP>1</SP> has an elongated slot 28 for a screw engaging the polepiece 6 and an insulated disc 26. The polepiece 7 is similarly engaged with an extension on the end plate. Each end of the motor shaft 20 projects beyond the end plates and carries a screw which meshes with a worm-wheel 12 driving the wheel axles. A rectangular strap 1 has a seating for the polepieces and a shoulder for securing the side frames 30. The body of the locomotive or coach attaches to a stirrup 36 secured to the strap 6. Alternatively an H frame mounts a vertical motor, the frame being screwed to the bogie. A base-plate 55 of selected length is secured by screws 54 to the end webs of the gear-box frames, the screws being adjustably positioned in elongated holes in the base-plate. The motor shaft drives through bevel gearing the worm element 51 which is connected by flexible tubing 60 to the other worm element. The worm element engages teeth on a barrel-shaped member 49 secured to the wheel axle. Each gear-box comprises a two-part box frame, the upper part made of metal, the lower part of plastics, the ends being united by curved side-plates 46.
