[Also in Division D1] A method of making lengths of material from which sliding clasp fastener stringers may subsequently be cut, comprises weaving together synthetic thread material and textile thread material, the synthetic thread material forming the coupling elements and having preformed deformations at which the synthetic thread material bends during weaving. Fig. 1 shows a length of material in which the synthetic thread material 3 bends at the deformations 23 to a "regular meander" form so that loops 13 carrying the coupling heads and loops 11 within the width of the length are formed; alternate deformations form the coupling heads, and the loops 11 are alternatively located on opposite sides of the length. The thread material 3 at this edge of the length is passed over a wire or mandrel (not shown) and the spacing of the loops between the sides is determined by a cord 2. A textile weft thread 18 and textile warp threads are also used to form the length. The warp threads 16, 17 connect the loops 11 on one side of the length and the warp threads 19, 20 the loops 11 on the other side. The loops 11 form guides for a slider. Fig. 2 shows two lengths which are simultaneously woven so that the coupling heads of the synthetic material threads 3a, 3b are interlocked. A mandrel or wire 32 is used around which the threads 3a, 3b bend, at alternate deformations. In this method the wires 3a, 3b bend inside the widths of the lengths so that flattened coils are formed, the textile warp and weft threads securing the coils in place.
