[Also in Division Dl] ] A sliding clasp fastener comprises two woven stringer tapes each having a row of coupling members formed in a longitudinable edge portion thereof, the rows of coupling members being adapted to be brought into an out of engagement with one another by means of a slider and each being covered on one side by a longitudinal fold of the respective tape, the fold line of which extends substantially in alignment with the coupling heads 18 of the row of said coupling members the two folds abutting one another at their fold lines in the closed condition of the fastener, each said row of coupling members being formed from a mono filament weft thread 12 of permanently deformable material, which thread is inserted into said edge portions of the tape and which is shaped into said coupling heads after the weaving is completed. In the construction described, the weft thread 12 is made of a plastics material. The portions of the coupling members which serve to accommodate the coupling heads of said members are disposed remote from the edge of the tape associated with the coupling members, the connections 21 between the individual coupling members disposed opposite said portions extending to the edge. As shown the thread 12 alternates with a thinner weft thread 13 which extends the full width of the tape and over the portion of the tape which incorporates the thread 12 the tape is of two ply thickness with upper and lower warp threads 15 whereas over the remainder of the tape the tape is single ply and has one layer of warp threads 14. The thread 12 is bent in the loom around a wire mandrel 20. Between the two plies of the tape over the portion including the thread 12, threads or cords are inserted to produce a bead and between these a pair of additional warp threads 17 are provided near one edge of the tape. Each stringer tape can be woven either in the folded condition or it can be woven flat and folded afterwards in which case the folding can take place in the loom. The slider comprises inner and outer guide parts the outer guide part engaging the connections 21 between the individual coupling members.
