A heat treatment and drying oven chamber 8, Fig. 2, has air continuously circulated therethrough by a fan 6 driven by a motor 3 mounted on a vertical axis, which air is heated by an electric element 12 in a vertical space at the rear of the chamber and dried by a material in granular, divided or porous form, in a mesh tray 18 which is slidably mounted in sealing contact with the walls of the chamber and closely adjacent the fan. The articles to be treated are mounted on trays 14 in the chamber. A second fan or blower having its inlet connected to the air circulation circuit between the first fan and the oven chamber and its delivery arranged to enable the dried air from the circuit to be utilized, e.g. for a second drying chamber or for spraying objects. In a further embodiment for use with granular material the oven chamber is formed as a double-bottomed hopper 50, Fig. 9, having a lower discharge outlet 74, mounted in a space 53 formed at one side of a casing 51 by a partition 52, and a fan (not shown), a fan motor 60, a control box and instrument panel 61 and an electric heater 68 respectively being mounted in separate chambers formed by partitions at the other side of the partition 52. The heated air passes in a circuitous path from the fan and heater to the base of the hopper and passes upwardly therethrough for recirculation via a horizontal shallow chamber 63 formed by a removable lid 64 and a horizontal partition 62, in which partition a mesh tray 65 having the drying agent is removably mounted. In a further embodiment the treatment chamber is of rectangular form arranged horizontally (Fig. 13, not shown).
