Abstract
944,922. Ground consolidation. LOSENHAUSENWERK, DUSSELDORFER MASCHINENBAU A.G. Jan. 15,1960 [Jan. 16, 1959; Jan. 17, 1959; Jan. 20, 1959], No. 1535/60. Heading E1G. In a method of road construction the ground on which the road is to be laid is subjected to first series of repetitive jolts at the natural frequency of the ground and a further series of jolts at a higher frequency which may correspond to the natural frequency of the partly consolidated ground or to the natural frequency of the constituents of the ground. A machine for carrying out the method comprises a pair of vibrators 1, 2 coupled by fishplates 7. The frequency of operation of the vibrators is adjustable through an order of magnitude and the leading vibrator in the direction of motion is adjusted to the natural frequency of the ground (between 15-20 c/s) and the second adjusted to a frequency in the range 150-200 c/s.
