Abstract

944,861. Radio direction-finders. MARCONI CO. Ltd. July 31, 1962 [Nov. 23, 1961], No. 41962/61. Heading H4D. A radio goniometer comprises a ferrite stator FS, Fig. 1, carrying symmetrically disposed halfwindings 1, 1<SP>1</SP> . . . 4, 4<SP>1</SP> inter-connected as illustrated in Fig. 2, and a rotor consisting of a hollow cylinder IR, Fig. 3, of insulating material carrying two similar windings of which one only is depicted; the second winding is wound on the R.H. side of the rotor and is connected in parallel with the first one. Output signals from the rotor are taken off by sliprings. In a direction-finder incorporating the goniometer each oppositely disposed pair of linear vertical aerials A . . . is connected via coaxial cables to the opposite ends of a stator winding of the goniometer. It is stated that spacing error is substantially eliminated. Stator FS may be cylindrical or toroidal.
