[Also in Division D1] A device for anchoring one end of an assembly of wires 21 comprises an elongated sleeve 16 formed with a bore 17 for receiving the wires, an elongated rod 10 for fitting into the end of the assembly so that the wires are distributed about the rod, the rod being formed with an integral head 13, having an abutment face 14 arranged to bear against the ends of the wires, and the rod and sleeve being made of a material having elastic properties similar to the elastic properties of the wires, whereby forced insertion of the rod and distributed wires into the bore wedges the wires between the rod and the wall of the bore to anchor the end of the assembly of wires in the device. The rod has a stem with a cylindrical part 11 and a frusto-conical end 12 and -head 13 is also cylindrical and of greater diameter. To use the device the wires to be anchored are positioned around the stem so that their ends are in contact with the face 14 and a ring 22 is then slid over the wires until it abuts the face 14, the function of this ring being to prevent buckling when the wires and rod 10 are forced into the bore 17. The wires are compressed between the bore 17 and rod during the insertion and are held solely by the friction between the wires, the wall of the bore and the surface of the rod. The force required to insert the wires and the rod 10 into the bore is however less than that required to pull the wires from between the sleeve and rod since during the insertion the wires and the rod move together relative to the sleeve whereas to pull the wires out the friction between the wires and both the rod and sleeve must be overcome. Transverse serrations can be formed in the surface of the stem to increase the friction. The rod and bore can be other than circular in cross-section.
