Abstract
944,620. Acrylonitrile polymer solutions. PHRIX-WERKE A.G. Dec. 22, 1961 [Jan. 30, 1961], No. 46077/61. Heading C3P. Solutions of acrylonitrile polymers containing at least 80% by weight of polymerized acrylonitrile are prepared by dissolving the polymer in sulphuric acid having a concentration of not less than 65% by weight and containing an inorganic sulphate which is soluble in sulphuric acid of the specified concentration. The preferred sulphates are aluminium and ammonium sulphates. The polymer may be polyacrylonitrile or a copolymer of acrylonitrile with other ethylenically unsaturated compounds, e.g. methyl acrylate. The solutions may also comprise dyes and pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, formamide, and stabilizers such as those disclosed in Specification 944,619. The solutions may be used for spinning fibres and filaments.
