Abstract

944,471. Dump vehicles. L. B. LOANE. Sept. 1, 1960 [Aug. 1, 1959], No. 26473/59. Heading B7B. A dump trailer comprises a chassis 16 mounting wheel stub axles 20, a rear wall or door 25 pivoted at 37 and adapted to be held closed by catches 38, a T-shaped drawbar 30 provided with wheels 33 which may roll in longitudinal channels 17 of the chassis, an inclined floor 26 pivotally connected to brackets 35 provided on the drawbar cross-bar 31 and movable over a roller 29 forwardly and upwardly as the drawbar slides longitudinally, arms 36 projecting from the drawbar to support the door 25 in a closed position, and a catch 41, 42, see also Fig. 6 (not shown), operated by a pivoted handle 46 spring connected to a strut 47, which catch in the load transporting position prevents movement of the bar relative to the body. In operation the trailer is coupled to a tractor, and when it is desired to unload the trailer the handle 46 is moved to unlock the catch, and the tractor is driven forwards to cause the drawbar 30 and the connected floor 26 to move forwardly relative to the trailer body so that the load is dumped. At the same time the arms 36 are withdrawn from under the door 25 which overcomes the spring catches 38 and swings rearwardly. When the stops 34 depending from the drawbar cross member 31 engage with a beam 19 of the chassis 16 the trailer moves forwardly so that the door can move up and over the discharged load and swing back into the closed position. The drawbar may however be moved by a ram or winch instead of by the tractor.
