Abstract
944,129. Deflecting propulsion jets on aircraft. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. June 22, 1962 [June 30, 1961], No. 23675/61. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F1] A power plant comprises an elongated pod within which are mounted two jet engines which extend longitudinally of the pod, the two jet engines having exhaust nozzles which are disposed adjacent to each other and which direct the jet gases transversely of the pod. In the embodiment shown, the pod 15 is supported by a strut beneath the wing 12 of an aircraft, the pod containing two gas turbine jet lift engines 20, 21 which have respectively, air intakes 22, 23 and exhaust nozzles 24, 25, the exhaust nozzles being disposed adjacently and directing the jet gases downwardly. A pair of doors 26, 27 is provided at the forward end of the pod and when in the open position indicated in broken lines allow air to pass into the air intake 22. A second pair of doors 28, 29 is provided towards the rearward end of the pod and when in the open position shown in Fig. 4 allow air to pass into the air intake 23. The pod may be made of synthetic resin material.
