944,044. Dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 11, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No. 4559/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading H2A. A method for reducing the air gap between rotor and stator of a flameproof machine to prevent " pressure piling " comprises applying to the periphery of the rotor or stator one or more bands of non-magnetic preferably insulating material, and filling the slot openings with an insulating material. As described, bands of polyester varnished glass tape are wound round the periphery of the rotor and the slots are filled with strips of insulating material, which may be wedge-shaped. The bands of insulating material may alternatively be applied to the inner peripheral surface of the stator in the form of one or more tight sleeves.
