943,983. Belt fastenings. HAYDENNILOS Ltd. Jan. 30, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961], No. 4624/61. Heading F2Q. In a belt fastening comprising a hinge pin 18, Fig. 2, connecting intermeshing U-shaped plates 1 secured to the belt ends by wire staples 7, Fig. 1, the upper limb of each plate has holes for one or more staples which are secured thereto by force fitting or by welding and are pressed through the belt to engage and be bent over holes in the lower limb 2. The limbs 1, 2 are corrugated or grooved to provide channels in which the bases 8 and bent points 10 can lie. As shown the end 6 of the upper limb 1 is bent to position the points 10 correctly before insertion into the belt, insertion being progressively effected in three stages by shaped pressing blocks as described in Specification 943,984. Each plate has its hinge-engaging portion 3 half the width of its belt engaging portion 6. In one form the plate has two narrow hinge portions which are corrugated so that a curved cross-section engages the hinge pin.
