943,898. Cinematographic film spool drives. ZEISS IKON A. G. March 2, 1960 [March 21, 1959], No. 7406/60. Heading G2E. [Also in Division F2] A film take-up spool of a cinematographic projector is driven through friction reduction gearing from the main driving shaft of the projector. As shown balls 4 in a stationary cage engage a V-groove in a driving shaft 2 and also engage a ring 6a, 6b connected by a friction coupling comprising a wavy spring washer 9 to a winding shaft 7. The slip in the friction coupling is adjusted by means of a threaded ring 12 which abuts a collar 10 on the winding shaft. In a modification the ball cage is fast with the winding shaft and the ring is non-rotatable and formed in two halves which are urged together by the spring washer 9 which is adjustably loaded to vary the slip in the gearing.
