Abstract

943,864. Insulating millboards. JOHNSMANVILLE CORPORATION. Sept. 20,1961 [Oct. 12, 1960], No. 33623/61. Heading D1P. A millboard comprising 40-60% of asbestos, 35-45% of diatomaceous earth, and 7. 5-12. 5% of sodium and/or potassium silicate is impregnated with 15-40% of an aqueous solution of aluminium phosphate and dried by evaporation of water from the end faces only. During drying, the front and back surfaces of the millboard are covered with a water-impermeable material. The millboard is cut to the desired shape (e.g. as shown in Fig. 1) before or after impregnation but before drying. The silicate is activated after drying by heating the millboard to 170-400‹F. at a relative humidity of 80-100% for 4-8 hrs.
