943,815. Stop motions. MASCHINENFABRIK BENNINGLR A. G. Oct. 19, 1961 [Oct. 22, 1960], No. 37552/61. Headings DID and D1M. A device for severing a running thread when its tension becomes excessive comprises a pivoted feeler pin arranged to be pulled against the action of a spring by the tension in the thread being pulled around the pin in a V-shaped path such that when thread tension becomes excessive the feeler pin pivots to such an extent that the thread runs against a cutter and is severed. In the arrangement shown thread 1 passing from a creel to the warping drum on a beaming frame runs about a feeler pin 4 and close to a cutter blade 5. A shaft 7 rotatably mounted in a verticle angle iron 3 carries the pin 4 and also has loosely mounted thereon a switch member 8 a face of which may contact a pin 11 mounted on the shaft 7. Mounted on an insulating wall 13 is an angle iron 12 which is in electrical contact with a strip 14 on the outside of the wall and has an insulating block 15 received in an aperture therein, the block being downwardly urged by a spring located by a collar 18 mounted on a shaft 16 along which the block 15 may slide. In normal use the tension of the thread 1 holds an extension 20 of the member 8 against the block 15 and the pin is maintained in a vertical position. When the tension in the thread rises above a predetermined value the block 15 is lifted by extension 20 and the finger 4 moves to the right until the thread is severed on the blade 5. The switch member 8 is rotated anticlockwise under the action of the spring 9 until a lip 24 thereon contacts the angle iron 12 and closes an electrical circuit to interrupt the drive to the beam. The shaft 7 and pin 4 continue to rotate until pin 4 contacts a stop 22. A unit as shown in Fig. 3 may be provided for each thread running to the beam in which case the rod 16 is common to all the units and may be longitudinally shifted so that the tension in all the springs 17 may be simultaneously adjusted.
