Abstract

943,440. Stranding machines. B. & F. CARTER & Co. Ltd. July 13,1962 [Aug. 9, 1961], No. 28706/61. Heading D1T. A stranding machine comprises a rotatable wheel 14 having a plurality of bobbin carriers 16 each extending from the periphery thereof to support a bobbin 20 outwardly of such periphery, each carrier being rotatable about an axis that extends radially of the wheel 14 and being formed with a through bore 16a through which a strand from its bobbin 20 passes, there being means for rotating the wheel 14 and the carriers 16. _The carriers 16 are rotated through toothed elements 23e, 12, 12b and the wheel 14 is driven through toothed elements 23e, 14a<1>. Guides 22 assist in guiding the strand to the guide-plate 21. The wheel 14 is mounted coaxially with and supported upon a fixed rigid tube 11 that may have a nest of tubes 29 therein, each tube 29 for guiding an individual wire. An automatic brake 28 acts on the wheel 14.
