Abstract
943,023. Blade assemblies of turbines and compressors. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. April 13, 1960 [April 18, 1959], No. 13239/60. Heading F1T. In a blade assembly for a steam or gas turbine or for an axial-flow compressor, the blades are connected together by means of a tie tube 2 passing through apertures formed in adjacent blades 1 and secured thereto by expansion of the tube under internal pressure. The tube may be formed in sections each connecting at least two adjacent blades. The tube may be expanded so that the diameter thereof between adjacent blades is greater than the diameter thereof within the blades. The thickness of the tube may vary circumferentially of the tube, as in Fig. 3, the thicker portions being disposed at points liable to greater wear. The tube section between blades may be flattened as in Fig. 4 so as to reduce the resistance to fluid flow. The tube section 5 in Fig. 5 is closed at its ends by plugs 7 and is filled with gaseous fluid under pressure. In Fig. 6 the tube section 8 is filled with liquid 9 which is subjected to pressure and then solidified. In Fig. 7 the tube section 10 is expanded by applying internal pressure and is then partly filled with a metal 11 which is in liquid form at the blade operating temperature, or with a solid material in flowable form for example small lead balls, the ends of the tube section being closed by plugs. Again, the tube may be expanded by pulling or forcing a mandrel therethrough.
