943,013. Selective signalling systems. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 27, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36580/59. Heading G4H. The windings 4 of a double-acting relay 2 or similar device e.g. a step-by-step motor are energized selectively or alternately by means of a movable contact member 3 connected to the common end of windings 4 and co-operating with fixed contacts 5 to which the free ends of windings 4 are respectively connected. Energizing current may be derived from a mains supply which is common to the separate locations of member 3 and relay 2, suitable impedances 6 being inserted in circuit if desired. In the circuit shown, only one lead which is specific to the operating circuit of relay 2 is required, but if the relay 2 has an energizing circuit which is used solely for that purpose, at least two leads between the separated locations are required. The circuit is of particular application to the repetition of the readings of gas, water or electricity meters, or simply for the transmission of control impulses from a switch to a remotely situated apparatus. A prepayment mechanism may be included at the point remote from the meter. Specification 941,519 is referred to.
