Abstract

A process for coating surfaces, e.g. wooden boards as in furniture, comprises the steps of applying thereto a layer of resin (polyester) which is hardenable at room temperature and which contains a hardening catalyst, applying on said resin layer a thin film of decorative material (thin fabric, e.g. chintz) before the layer has hardened, applying a further layer of resin which is hardenable at room temperature over said film also before said resin in first layer has hardened and hardening the composite layer so produced with a hardening catalyst which may be present in or added to said further layer. The resins may be substantially non-self-coloured or slightly coloured. The hardened composite layer may be further treated, e.g. by grinding and polishing.
