Abstract
942,253. Knitting-machines. COURTAULDS Ltd. June 21, 1960 [June 22, 1959], No. 21272/59. Heading D1C. Fixed to and reciprocating with the presser 9 is a bar 10 bearing points 11 which, once per knitting cycle, extend through the needle line and between the paths of threads 12,13 laid on the needles by the underlaps of front and back guide bars 1, 3, respectively. The threads 12 lie above the points and, as the needles descend, are taken over the points in loops which are maintained whilst the course is completed, so that slack floats of those threads are formed. To this end, the points are so positioned that they remain above the spaces between the needles when the presser has been withdrawn sufficiently to lose contact with the beards 17. The points are downwardly directed towards their tips and the point bar may be secured to the presser by screws passing through slots in the bar, so that the extent to which the points penetrate the needle line, and hence the position of that part of the points over which the loops are formed, may be varied. The point may be pins or blades.
