Abstract

942,245. Delivering sheets. BERKSHIRE PRINTING CO. Ltd. Sept. 12, 1962, No. 34804/62. Heading B6H. [Also in Division B4] A mechanism for transversely cutting and transferring strips of material from a web comprises a pair of cutting blades each movable in a circular path and periodically co-operating to sever the web, gripping means engageable with opposite sides of the web for drawing the latter past the cutting blades, and a suction delivery roller to which the cut lengths are successively transferred by the gripping means. The printed web W is longitudinally slit into strips by rollers 3, 4 and then drawn by grippers 23, 24 carried on driven chains 12, 9 between two pairs of driven meshing gear-wheels 13, 10. Eccentrically and freely rotatably mounted between the gear-wheels of each pair are beams 14, 11 carrying knife blades 15, 16. The beam 14 carries a fixed pillar 18 slidable in a ball bearing bush in the beam 11. As the gear-wheels rotate, the blades come into periodical shearing relation with each other. The grippers deliver the sheets to a driven roller 28 having radial openings 27 to which suction is periodically applied to transfer the sheets to a platform 29.
