Abstract

Copper complexes are formed from copper salts of fatty acids and triazines or pyridylamines or their oxidation products. In examples, complexes from copper octcoate and benzoquanamine and copper acetate and 2,21 dipyridyl amine are prepared.ALSO:An hydraulic and lubricating composition comprises a major amount of an ester, and minor amounts each of a pyridylamine and/or a triazine, and of a complex of such an organic nitrogen compound with a copper salt of a fatty acid, the mol. ratio of total organic nitrogen compound to copper metal being between 2 and 75. Lists of suitable esters are given and include diesters, polyesters and complex esters, and mixed esters and mixtures of esters can be used. The organic nitrogen compounds may be substituted (suitable ones being listed) or oxidized. The copper salts forming the complexes are derived from C2-24 fatty acids. Phenols, especially bisphenols, are optional additions.
