941,863. Charging and discharging capacitors; electromagnetic clutches. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. May 16, 1962 [June 29, 1961,] No. 18887/62. Heading H2H. A circuit for energizing a clutch coil 69 for a period of, say, 1 second in response to an input signal 31, 36 of, say, 10 millisecs. duration, comprises a transistor 10 blocked by an input signal rendering a transistor 14 conductive, which charges a capacitor 55 in the 10 millisec. time from the positive potential of a battery 57 to the negative potential of a battery 54. The maximum capacitor charge may be limited substantially to the breakdown voltage of a diode 49. The negative capacitor charge renders transistors 18, 22 non-conductive and a transistor 26 conductive which energizes the coil 69 for 1 second while the capacitor discharges. If another signal 31, 36 appears before the capacitor has discharged, the 1 second operating time begins again. A discharge diode 71 is shunted across the coil 69.
