[Also in Division F1] A valve (not shown) arranged to open a bypass from the delivery conduit of a multi-stage centrifugal pump, particularly a boiler feed pump, when the delivery flow falls below a predetermined value is actuated by a double-acting servopiston 18 under the control of a slide valve 6 which is actuated through a lever by a flow-responsive valve in the pump delivery conduit. The valve 6 when positioned as shown connects a chamber 10 with the pump delivery and a chamber 9 with a conduit 12 connected to the penultimate stage of the pump, and reverses these connections when moved to its other position. In a modification, the by-pass valve is actuated by a diaphragm one side of which is continuously subject to pump delivery pressure whilst the other side is subject either to delivery pressure or to the pressure of the penultimate stage of the pump depending upon the position of the flow-responsive valve.
