Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0941749/C2/1> (wherein R represents a hydrogen or halogen (e.g. Cl, Br or F) atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group and Z an aliphatic bridge member having 3-6 carbon atoms, but excluding a tetramethylene chain) and their acid addition salts, and the preparation thereof and of the compounds in which Z represents a tetramethylene chain by heating a spiro compound of the general formula: <FORM:0941749/C2/2> (wherein A represents an aliphatic chain having 4-7 carbon atoms). The products are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of medicines. Benzthiazolines of the second general formula above are prepared by reacting o-aminothiophenols with cyclic ketones.
