Abstract

Stable, aqueous solutions, suitable for intravenous injection, comprise a narcotically-active, substituted phenoxyacetic acid amide and a water-soluble, non-ionic, surface-active material. Amides specified are 2-methoxy- and 2 - ethoxy - 4 - allyl - phenoxyacetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 2 - methoxy - 4 - n - propyl - phenoxy - acetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 2 - methoxy - 4 - propenyl - phenoxyacetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 2 - ethoxy - 4 - (11 - hydroxy - n - propyl) - phenoxyacetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 2 - ethoxy - 4 - acetyl - phenoxyacetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 2 - methoxy - 4 - (D 11 - buten - 31 - onyl) - phenoxyacetic acid - N,N - diethylamide, 3 - methoxy - 4 - (N,N - diethyl - carbamoyl - methoxy) - phenylacetic acid ethyl, n-propyl and allyl esters, 3-methoxy-4 - (N,N - diethylcarbamoyl - methoxy) - benzoic acid ethyl and n-propyl esters, and 2-methoxy - 4 - allyl - phenoxyacetic acid N - ethyl-N-ethoxy-amide. The surface-active material may be a saccharose ester, or an ethylene oxide derivative of a fatty acid, fatty alcohol, fatty oil or sorbitan fatty acid ester; those exemplified are ethoxylated castor oil, oleyl polyglycol ether, polyethylene oxide, sorbitan monooleate, polyhydroxyethylene stearate and saccharose monolaurate.
