Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of general formula; <FORM:0941560/C2/1> wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical containing 3 or 4 carbon atoms, R1 is a hydrogen atom, a lower (1-7C) alkyl group or a b -hydroxyethyl group, each Y radical is a chlorine or bromine atom, and X is an amino, lower alkylamino or di(lower alkyl)amino radical; and their preparation by reaction of the corresponding benzoic acid or a reactive derivative thereof with an amine of formula R-NH-R1, an optional first step comprising the preparation of 3,4,5-trisubstituted benzoyl chloride from the acid by reaction with a chlorinating agent. Methyl 4-amino-3,5-dichlorobenzoate is prepared from the acid chloride by reaction with methanol and yields the 4-dimethylamino- and 4-diethylamino-compounds on reaction with corresponding trialkylphosphates; hydrolysis yields the 4-substituted amino-3,5-dichlorobenzoic acids. Methyl 4-butylamino-benzoate is made by esterifying the acid and yields methyl 4-butylamino-3,5-dichlorobenzoate on reaction with sulphuryl chloride; hydrolysis yields the acid which gives a mixed anhydride with ethyl chlorocarbonate.
